Recycle-A-Bicycle is a community-based bike shop and non-profit organization that provides educational/job training programs and encourages environmental stewardship and everyday bicycle use. Through programs such as Earn-A-Bike, Ride Club, Cycle Craft, and Summer Youth Employment Program, RAB is dedicated to the health and well-being of NYC youth. In this past year alone, RAB has worked with more than 1,000 young people and collectively pedaled more than 10,000 miles. On average, RAB salvages 1,200 bicycles each year from the waste stream, diverting a total of 36,000 pounds of waste from NYC's landfills.
Film Biz Recycling is a not-for-profit prop boutique and information center dedicated to assist the film industry address the triple bottom line: people, profit and planet. Since it's inception in May of 2008, over 130 tons have diverted from dumpsters ( ergo landfills) into the hands of local charities and reuse centers like Build it Green, Materials for the Arts, Hour Children and Blissful Bedrooms. The creme de la creme of donations are retained and rented and sold to the public and the industry to support operations. We've received donations from 30 Rock, Sex and the City 2, Doubt and countless TV commercials. The prop house not only the only funding source but evidence that most of what we throw away is of value.

Very simply, it's an informal social gathering/networking event for folks that are environmentally minded. Come and we'll introduce you to some of the other like minded folks in and around Queens. If we're lucky (which is likely) we'll cross pollinate, make new friends, catch up with old ones, and maybe even sprout an idea or three.
We have a different host each month selecting the venue of their choice. If you are interested in helping to get the word out, if you have suggestions for hosts, or if you'd like to donate your skills in building a website please let me know at queensgreendrinks@gmail.com
