What happened when a small community in southwest Chicago took on Big Coal - and won.

 

Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO,) also known as La Organización de Justicia Ambiental de La Villita, is a grassroots community organization based in Little Village, Chicago striving for a clean and just environment. We seek to empower our local and global communities through environmental organizing and youth programming for cleaner air, open space, and a sustainable future.

Dr. Brad Christensen

"Smart Grid for You"

Smart grid technology is efficient, safe and helps incorporate renewable power into the grid.  Fun, hands-on, interactive models will help attendees understand how the smart grid works to supply electricity to our neighborhoods while increasing sustainability.

Dr. Christensen, from Illinois State University, is a co-founder of the Smart Grid for Schools program that provides teacher training and student workshops to educate about smart grid technology and sustainability.

Once an illegal dumpsite, Eden Place is now a center for hope, growth, and change in Fuller Park on Chicago's South Side. Eden Place was featured in the film "Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time."

How can businesses help mitigate climate change?

Author and former energy entrepreneur Tom Stoner will be talking about how mitigating climate change is not only possible, but will result in a more prosperous pathway to a sustainable future.

Mr. Stoner's new book is Small Change, Big Gains: Reflections of an Energy Entrepreneur. He is also the founder of Project Butterfly, a research organization dedicated to finding business solutions to climate change.
