Selkirk Green Drinks

Green Drinks Borders is meeting next on Tuesday 29th March 7:00pm. Venue: Heatherlie House Hotel, Selkirk

Contact: mchapman@selkirkregen.com

Seems about time for another Green Drinks get together, so I've booked a corner of the bar at the Heatherlie House Hotel in Selkirk on Tuesday March 29th from 7:00 onwards.  They've promised to have at least one real ale on too!

Hopefully by the 29th, those folk who have bids in with the Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) should know whether they've got any money to play with this year so it will either be free drinks all round in celebration or commiserations and drowning sorrows.  Fingers crossed that we'll be able to chat about plans for the next year, and how we can collaborate and share ideas.

Green drinks is open to anyone who has an interest in environmental issues to meet with some like minded folk, learn some more, find some allies, or just to have a friendly drink in pleasant surroundings.  There will undoubtedly be some volunteering opportunities, and if things go well with the CCF bids there may even be contacts who could lead you towards some paid work too!

I'd also like to chat about the future of Green Drinks, and whether this could evolve into something like "Green Walks", "Green Village Halls", "Green Village halls with home cooked food", "come and look at the Green thing I've done to my house/village/garden..." or any other sociable excuse to get together for a chat that you can think of.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon, and please pass this onto anyone else who may want to come along.

Hope to see you all soon

Matt

This is a terrifically exciting time to be involved with Environmental Issues in Scotland.  There are an amazing number of voluntary groups promoting sustainability and regeneration within their own communities.  Renewable heat and energy generation is undergoing fantastic growth and developing a bewildering array of exciting new technologies, and all of this is supported at Government level with the most ambitious targets in the world for reducing Climate Change emissions.

Selkirk Green Drinks aims to bring together people from the Borders area who are interested in, or actively working with the environment in some way.  The meetings will bring together a fascinating range of ideas, experience and practical expertise into one room.  Meetings will start with a short presentation on a particular project, initiative or technology, followed by the opportunity for questions.  After some brief introductions there will be plenty of time to network and find inspiration, ideas and resources to develop your own projects and interests.

The more people who come, the more valuable these events will be.  Initially these events will be held every couple of months, and will develop to meet the need of the people who come along.  If we can work together and share our resources, all of our projects will benefit and we'll move the whole area forward to a clean, green and prosperous future!
