Gallery Vertigo, 3001 31st Street (upstairs), Vernon BC
Our Host(s) this month is Gallery Vertigo and UBCO Woodhaven ECO art experience
The Woodhaven Eco Art Experience Lives On
In 2010, over 81 artists made art in Kelowna’s Woodhaven Nature Conservancy. UBC professor Nancy Holmes and artist Lori Mairs filmed many of the art projects as well as over 40 hours of footage of plants, landscape and animals in the park over a period of two years and have created a short film, Woodhaven: An Eco Art Experience, that celebrates the park and the artwork that the park inspired.
Poetic and visually compelling, this film is the Woodhaven Eco Art Project as seen through the forces of darkness and light, our damaging as well as our loving relationship with the natural world. Shot entirely on location in the Woodhaven Nature Conservancy in Kelowna, British Columbia, the 17minute film reveals the natural world in relationship to the people who came to make and enjoy the art.
The film is an intriguing artistic response to questions around our conflicting relationship with the natural world and it celebrates Woodhaven as not just a passive object of inspiration, but a complex living entity actively collaborating with human beings.
The public is invited to a screening of this film Monday March 12th at Gallery Vertigo to take part in Green Drinks Vernon BC and held at Gallery Vertigo
For details about the film, contact Nancy Holmes at nancy.holmes@ubc.ca or Lori Mairs at art@lorimairs.com or phone 250-807-9369. See the Woodhaven Eco Art Project website at www.woodhaven.ok.ubc.ca.

Green Drinks Field Trip
The Vernon Green Drinks crew have been invited to join the 10/10/10 (errmmm 12/10/10) 350.org climate action work party at Coldstream Creek Park. This event coincides with the regular green drinks start time. So this month we are going to start at Coldstream Park and finish up at our usual location of Sir Winstons.
Why you ask would we give up our comfy pub stools for an hour or so? well.. to plant trees

Here in the North Okanagan we will work with the public and Katimavik youth, Tuesday, October 12, 5:30pm, to plant trees at Coldstream Park on Kal Lake Road. Coldstream Mayor, Jim Garlick is providing the trees. Bring shovels and a picnic and bring your kids to meet Kiki the Eco-elf."

Update posted Dec 8, 2009
So in May it will be the sixth monthly meeting for Green Drinks Vernon. It is going well so far with new faces at every event and a dedicated core of members who never fail to make it out. Our little event has seen many meetings between business owners, students, job seekers, community leaders and government representatives. This month we are trying to spread the word a little more through orginizations and community information bulletins. If you have a suggestion for getting the word out let me know. See you next time! (May 11th 5:30 @ Sir Winstons).
Cheers,
Matt
Update Posted - April 14, 2009
We had another good turn out for the second Vernon - Green Drinks with up to 14 people attending at the high point of the evening. The majority of attendees were first timers with a broad spectrum of representatives from government, private practise, students, and green craftsmen. Thanks again to all who attended and spread the word.
Update your calendar, the next Green Drinks is scheduled for February 9, 2009. We are sticking with Sir Winston's as a venue as they treat us pretty well. 2705 32nd St Vernon BC.
Please contact me with any questions, comments or ideas for the event.
Cheers,
Matt

Our first Green Drinks in Vernon went very well with approximately a dozen attendees throughout the evening. The group was made up of consultants, government, students, NGO representatives, green builders, and job seekers. A few drinks and lots of laughs were had. From my estimation the evening was a success. Thanks to all who attended and to those who spread the word.
See you next time,
Cheers!
